Kyo-ChlorellaTM
(Excellent Anti-Oxidant Phyto-Nutrient Source *)

Kyo-Chlorella is made of a specially cultivated green algae, Chlorella vulgaris, that is grown under the strictest quality-control standards on one of the southern-most islands of Japan. This pristine environment, including pure mineral water and sunshine, make Kyo-Chlorella a naturally rich source of phytonutrients. Chlorella's cell walls must be broken in order to enhance bio-availability of nutrients for better assimilation.39 The unique broken cell wall process, which Kyo-Chlorella undergoes, yields a certified more than 80% digestibility. Chlorella is the best natural source of chlorophyll and is rich in protein, beta-carotene, B vitamins, iron and other valuable vitamins and minerals.

Protein

Chlorella is 50-60% protein by weight,1-3 and provides more than 19 amino acids, including all 8 essential amino acids. During famines and food shortages, Chlorella has been used as an excellent and convenient protein source. Chlorella has been shown to improve the growth of children, as wells as various animals and birds.2 The superior digestibility of Kyo-Chlorella provides a pure, potent source of protein.

Chlorophyll

Kyo-Chlorella contains about 30 mg of chlorophyll per gram.3 In studies, chlorophyll was shown to assist in the recovery of 1,200 cases of acute infections of the respiratory tract and sinuses.4 It has been successfully used as nutritional support in the treatment of chronic ulcers,4 bad breath and oral diseases.5,6 It has also been shown to reduce flatulence and body odor and to ease chronic constipation.6,7 When taken with antibiotics, chlorophyll induced rapid recovery from secondary invasive infections in one study.7 It has been shown to hasten wound healing5 and has been used in the treatment of kidney stones.8  Chlorophyll has also demonstrated radioprotective,9,10 antimutagenic and anticarcinogenic activities.10-13 It has been shown to nullify the effects of a variety of environmental and food substances (such as cigarette smoke, diesel fumes, and fried beef) which are known to cause mutation, or abnormal changes, in cells.14,15 Chlorophyll's antioxidant properties may be partly responsible for its protective effects.15

Beta-Carotene

Chlorella is also naturally rich in the potent antioxidant beta-carotene. Just one serving of Kyo-Chlorella naturally provides one-third (1644 I.U.) of the daily recommended value for beta-carotene.3 Beta-carotene is one of the most nutritionally active carotenoids, of more than 600 carotenoids that have been isolated, and comprises 15-30% of all carotenoids in the blood.16 It has been shown to provide nutritional support for healthy immune function and to protect cells from mutation or abnormal growth.16 Beta-carotene levels in the blood have been shown to be lower in smokers, individuals extensively exposed to UV light, those with cataracts, or suffering from sickle cell anemia and various forms of cancer.16-18 Antioxidants may help to maintain a healthy cardiovascular system and protect the body from free radicals and superoxidants.19-21

Appropriate antioxidant intervention, by inhibiting or reducing free radical toxicity, may also help to alleviate or delay signs of aging.22,23

Further, Chlorella has been shown to improve the healing of wounds24 stomach ulcers, duodenal ulcers and chronic gastritis.25,26 Chlorella has been shown to promote intestinal peristalsis (movement through the intestinal tract),26 to regulate cholesterol27,28 and to inhibit tumor growth in animals.29-32,40,41,43 Chlorella reduced the toxicity of chemotherapy and radiation therapy in animal models.42,43 Studies suggest that Chlorella may also afford protection from infections33-37,44 by stimulating the immune system.33-35,37,38,43,44
