What is Shark Cartilage?
Cartilage is a strong, flexible substance found in the
joints, nose and ears in humans. Shark cartilage is identical, only it is
derived from shark fins.
Shark cartilage gained recognition after the false notion was popularized that
sharks do not get cancer. Although shark cartilage may help treat a variety of
ailments, research is still very preliminary and many more studies need to be
conducted to prove its effectiveness.
Health Benefits
Shark cartilage is reported to have anti-cancerous
properties, as it has been shown to inhibit the growth of blood vessels that
feed cancerous tumors. However, it is unknown if the oral ingestion of shark
cartilage will yield these benefits.
Additionally, shark cartilage is thought to have anti-inflammatory properties,
helping to alleviate the symptoms of osteoarthritis and psoriasis. Again, more
research is needed.

Shark cartilage is available in powder, capsule, and topical cream formulas.
Indications: Children and pregnant/nursing women should not use
shark cartilage. Individuals recovering from surgery or heart attack should
also avoid shark cartilage. Do not take shark cartilage in conjunction with
thiazide diuretics, or in case of sensitivity to calcium.
